About the Purdue Calumet Library

Welcome new nursing online students!  Distance students have access to all of the library resources, including the assistance of a librarian specifically for nursing students.  Contact the Librarian for the College of Nursing if you need any assistance with completing the Library Assignment portion of the Technology Cruise.  Contact information is available in the column on the right of the screen, under the chat box where you can ask a question for an immediate response when the librarian is online.  My work schedule changes as I work some evenings and some weekends.  When I am out of the library, other library staff members are available to assist you.

This guide will provide information about the library and detailed instructions on how to complete your assignment for the technology cruise, including a video tutorial.

Library Home Page

The library’s home page is where you can find out general information about the library, including updated information on library hours and access our library databases.

Library Hours

The library is open seven days a week, except for holidays and interim periods specified on the website.   The library’s main number is 219-989-2224, or you can reach a librarian by calling 219-989-2676 if I am out of the library, or submit an online question via our LibAnswers system.

Username and Password

The username and password used to access library resources is the same one used to access Blackboard.  It may be referred to as a Net ID or Career Account.  Your password will expire every 180 days.  You may reset it by following the steps for online password management, or you may contact accelerated online tech support.

List of Databases

On the library’s home page, there is a link for "Databases Alphabetically" that will allow you to access all of our library databases alphabetically.  You can select the first letter of the name of the databases from the A to Z list.  For a list of nursing databases, you can also view the nursing databases tab on this library guide.  It is not required to login to Blackboard or My PUC to access the library.  You may access databases from the library's home page or one of the library guides for your particular course.

For the library assignment for the orientation, you will be using the CINAHL database.  Detailed steps on completing the assignment are available on the Library Assignment tab.

Accessing the Library Databases While at Work

Many hospitals and other workplaces implement internet security settings that block access to sites such as our library databases.  If you encounter an issue logging in to a library database at work, check with your employer's IT Department about whether they can unblock access, or login to the library databases from a home or other non-employer network.
