The following is a list of key databases in nursing research. Click on the database name to be directed to the database.
Access to all PUC databases is also available through the library's home page. You can view the databases by subject (Nursing and Health) or alphabetically.
Note that some databases contain citations to articles without a PDF full-text link. To check for access to these articles, click on the FIND IT @ PUC Library link as described here.
- CINAHL Plus with Full Text
CINAHL Plus with Full Text contains full-text and many more abstracts for over 3,800 journals from 1981 to the present.
- Cochrane Library
The Cochrane Library is a collection of six databases that contain evidence, including the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials.

Health Source Nursing contains full-text access to over 500 nursing publications and abstracts from an additional more than 800 publications
- Joanna Briggs Institute Database
Off-campus users should login from the library's home page and select the databases alphabetically link, sign on, then select the "J" and Joanna Briggs Institute.
- Joanna Briggs Institute Tutorial
- Medline (EBSCO)
Medline was created by the National Library of Medicine, and is a source to search citations from over 4,800 current biomedical journals. Medline is not a source for full-text articles, but can be used to search and identify citations to located articles in other databases or in print.
- Medline (OVID)
Medline is a source of citations to biomedical literature. The Medline database can be searched in the OVID platform.
- Nursing Resource Center
Contains journal abstracts, sample nursing care plans, medical assessments, disease overviews and medical illustrations.
PsycINFO is a resource for abstracts of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations and contains over 3 million citations. PsycInfo is not a source for full-text articles, but can be used to identify citations to locate in other databases or our print collection.
Contains over 150,000 Articles from nearly 80 journals published by the American Psychological Association.
PubMed provides access to MEDLINE, the National Library of Medicine’s database containing citations and author abstracts from approximately 5,500 biomedical journals published in the United States and in other countries. Full-text articles are not contained in PubMed, but links to articles freely available on the web are provided. If an article is located in a library database, one can link directly to the article.
- Sage Journals
The library subscribes to specific nursing journals in Sage that are not available in our other databases. To search only journals that are included in our subscription, select the "Advanced Search" from the Search tab near the top of the screen, and check the box to search "Sage Journals available to me."
